By looking after pets, people, and the environment together, we aim to provide care that is not only progressive and professional, but also ethical and compassionate.
At BVC, you and your pets are always our first priority—but we also believe our practice should make a positive difference to the wider community and the world we share. Every decision we make, from the medicines we prescribe to the products and materials we use, is guided by care, thoughtfulness, and responsibility.
When the time comes to say goodbye, we entrust aftercare to Peaceways, a small, local crematorium run by the dedicated and caring Jeff and Sara. Their grounds are surrounded by songbird-filled woodlands and rose gardens lovingly maintained by volunteers. Always open to visitors, Peaceways provides a peaceful setting where you can walk, reflect, and remember your beloved companion.
Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond cardboard and glass recycling. We collect empty tablet packets (including those you return to us), use syringes made from recycled plastic, and designed our building with carefully chosen, responsibly sourced materials. In every room you’ll find dedicated bins for recycling and clinical waste, with general waste kept to a minimum.
We take a progressive, evidence-led approach to veterinary medicine. For example, where all dogs once received annual vaccinations against distemper, hepatitis, and parvovirus (DHP), research shows that these last up to three years. We follow this science, meaning DHP is only given when due.
Similarly, parasite prevention is tailored to your pet’s needs, creating a bespoke annual plan that avoids unnecessary medication. This approach goes beyond a “one-size-fits-all” model, recognising that every pet, every family, and every environment is unique.
At your pet’s annual health check - and during the six-month review if you’re on our Proactive Health Plan - we’ll discuss the most appropriate and responsible care for your situation.
We remain mindful of the interconnectedness of health: between pets and their families, between different species in the same home, and between our daily choices and the environment we all share and depend on. By considering these connections, we aim to deliver veterinary care that is effective, ethical, and sustainable.
